As part of our commitment to strengthening youth engagement in democratic processes, we successfully held a national youth dialogue that centered on defining the role, aspirations, and visions of young people in Zanzibar democracy.

The dialogue convened over 60 participants, including young people, youth stakeholders, civil society organizations (CSOs), government institutions, and the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC), creating a vibrant platform for reflection and idea-sharing.

Throughout the discussions, youth participants vividly expressed the type of election they envision — one that is peaceful, inclusive, enabling, and encouraging of meaningful participation.

They emphasized their readiness to be fully involved in electoral processes — not only as voters but also as active election actors and as deserving candidates for leadership roles.

Their contributions demonstrated resilience, confidence, and a firm commitment to standing for democratic values, with a clear call for continued support to unlock their full potential.

It was also honoring to have the Director of the Youth Development Department under the Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports, Zanzibar, for honoring the event with his presence and for his ongoing encouragement of youth participation in democracy.
